Do you have a Princess obsessed child? I have two of them. So if you’re looking for Disney Princesses, this Blog post is for you.
Disney is nearly synonymous with the Princesses of our favorite fairytales retold. While I grew up with Belle and Ariel, having two daughters exposed me to the newer Disney catalog as well. Specifically, the world of Frozen. I know I’m not alone. So, on our very first Disney trip as a family, we absolutely HAD to meet Anna and Elsa. If there is a must see someone on your list, here is how you go about locating them on your next trip.
The My Disney Experience app is an invaluable tool for many things. Download it and get to know it before your vacation.
Character Meet and Greets
To view Character locations and times open your MDE App and hit that upside teardrop (location) icon. You will see a drop down titled “Locations” in the upper left portion of your screen. Use it to select your park. Next, at the top of your screen, scroll to the left and tap the “Characters” icon. Then I like to click “Show List” in the bottom right hand corner.
There you have it. A list of every Character you can meet in a particular park. Tap their picture and you will get more details. You can see where a Character meet is located, what time they appear next, and a list of all future appearances for that day.
Sadly character meet and greets no longer have “lightning lanes” as they are not part of the Lightning Lane Multipass System. This means the posted time outside the line (or in your My Disney Experience Ap)p is probably what wait times will look like.
If making it to those meet in greets feels too time consuming or you don’t like the idea of the logistics involved, you can also catch glimpses of your favorites at Stage Shows, Parades, and even some attractions.
Shows and Parades
For Show and Parade times and locations, use the same steps you did for finding characters in your MDE App, only select “Entertainment” instead. Here is a list of shows, parades and attractions that include Princess appearances.
Magic Kingdom:
Festival of Fantasy Parade People line up early to see the parade. If you don’t “need” to see it with the castle in the background I recommend Frontierland for viewing. This is where the parade starts and the crowds are typically lower so I feel less claustrophobic and often get a decent view without a big wait. The floats put a lot of the action up high so kids can see even if they aren’t first row.
The Maleficent float does breath fire. It’s incredible. I don’t like spoilers, but for timid members of your party I think it is better to be aware ahead of time.
Mickey’s Magical Friendship Fare is a musical stage show in front of Cinderella’s Castle. It is standing room only and there isn’t any shade. Run time is about 23 minutes and you will see Mickey and Friends, as well as Tiana and some of your Frozen favorites.
Enchanted Tales with Belle is a unique interactive show at Magic Kingdom. In this experience you wait in a queue by Maurice’s cottage and then magically enter the Beast’s Castle. A very fun effect, I won’t spoil this surprise. Anyone that participates gets a picture with Belle at the end.
Hollywood Studios:
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Singalong is a 30 minute retelling of Frozen, featuring two humorous Arendell story tellers in an indoor (air conditioned) theater. Anna, Cristoff, and Elsa make special (albeit brief) appearances. Singing along is highly encouraged.
Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage is a 30 minute retelling of Beauty and the Beast in an outdoor, but mostly shaded, theater.
The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure is, you guessed it, a retelling of the Little Mermaid. It lasts about 20 minutes and features live actors, puppetry and some inventive screen use. The theater is indoors, in the air conditioning, with seating.
EPCOT:
EPCOT is often thought of as an adult park, but it does have things for your littles…including LOTS of Princesses. Nearly every country is home to someone special. Check your MDE App. You can find Anna and Elsa, Mulan, Jasmine, Snow White, Belle, and Aurora throughout the day.
Beauty and the Beast Singalong plays in EPCOT’s France pavilion. It’s an indoor, air conditioned theater with seating. You will only see Belle on the screen, there are no live action characters here. The story is told from LeFou’s perspective, lasts about 15 minutes, and singing along is encouraged.
We’ve covered individual meet and greets, parades, and stage shows. One other fun way to see several of your favorite Disney people is during Character Dining.
Character Dining
Character meals are fun because you meet multiple characters while you are occupied by eating instead of waiting in a line. The catch, character meals are usually average (sometimes mediocre) food at a high price tag, because you are paying for an experience.
It’s important to note, that if you do character dining in the park you are giving up an hour to an hour and a half of park time. This may be a good strategy if you can’t take a mid-afternoon break at your hotel room. It’s also an escape from the heat in the summer months or rainy afternoons during hurricane season.
During your meal, the Princesses will stop at your table, have some interaction, autograph something if you like, and take a photo. There are numerous Character Dining options at Walt Disney World. For the purposes of our topic I will mention those featuring Princesses. Of note, the exact cast of characters can’t be guaranteed day to day. Sometimes a friend is called away and you may be down an interaction, or a new friend may step in as a substitute. That being said, I’ve listed which friends are expected to be at each dining location.
Cinderella’s Royal Table is a sit down prix fixe dining experience inside Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom. Friends typically include: Ariel with her land legs, Cinderella (meets outside), Aurora, Jasmine, Snow White, and Merida.
Akershus is located in the Norway pavilion. It is a Family Style all-you-care-to-enjoy dining experience. Friends often include Ariel with her land legs, Belle, Aurora, Snow White, and Tiana.
1900 Park Fare A buffet meal located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, where you may meet Aladdin, Cinderella, Mirabel and Princess Tiana (in her Frontierland outfit, not a gown.)
Storybook Dining at Artists’ Point is sit down prix fixe character dinner (only) meal at Wilderness Lodge. While you dine Dopey, Grumpy, and Snow White greet you at your table. At the end of your meal you receive a special invitation to meet the Evil Queen as you exit.
I recommend checking Disney’s website for current meal pricing and to view the menus. If you are staying off site, you can make reservations for these experineces 60 days before the date when you plan to dine. On site guests can book their dining 60 days out from the start of their vacation for the duraction of their trip, up to the first 10 nights if you are lucky enough to have a longer vacation.
Hope this information is useful as you prepare to bring your Princess loving family members to The Most Magical Place on Earth.
Happy planning,
Jody
